A Waste Analysis and Characterization Study (WACS) was conducted in all project sites of Project SUCCESS (Strengthening Urban Communities Capacities to Endure Severe Shocks) as an approach to systematically measure and identify the total waste generated by both household and non-household sources. The waste samples form the households revealed a significant percentage of compostable materials from kitchen and garden waste and residual wastes that without proper management could go into the water ways. The waste information determined from this inventory will be used in strategizing on viable treatments or management of wastes.
The WACS was conducted in three consecutive days to take into account waste generated by households on a normal working day, a market day and a day after a family weekend. The partner DSACs initiated the activity in coordination with the Barangay SWM committee members.
